Vegetable and Herb Garden Revival

Seal of Cornell Cooperative Extension

Cornell Cooperative Extension in Warren County is having a ‘Vegetable and Herb Garden Revival in 2010!’ So many people raised their own ‘Victory Vegetable Gardens’ in 2009 that we are offering our ‘Vegetable Seed Starter Kits’ again this year. We are also introducing a New ‘Herb Seed Starter Kit.’

Each VEGETABLE seed kit includes: Five different vegetable seed packs, full growing directions for each seed type, garden row markers and the newest Cornell Cooperative Extension ‘2010 Booklet on Vegetable Varieties.’ The vegetable seed kit includes ‘tendergreen’ beans, cucumber, lettuce, squash and tomato seed packs.

The HERB seed kits include five different herb seed packs, growing directions, garden row markers and other information about starting a container HERB garden. The herb seed kit includes sweet basil, dill, green scallion onion, parsley and nastursium (nastursium produces beautiful edible salad flowers!).

Each seed kit is only $5 for the complete kit. Save 10% when you buy both the VEGETABLE and the HERB seed kits—only $9 for both. For $9 you get all ten garden vegetable and herb seed packs!

Proceeds from the ‘VEGETABLE and HERB Seed Starter Kit’ fund raiser will be used by the Cornell Cooperative Extension 4-H (Youth Development Program) and the Master Gardener Volunteer (Consumer Horticulture Education Program) to help support the many 4-H youth programs in Warren County and the Master Gardener Volunteer programs that provide science-based gardening information to people in our community.

Why not start, or add to, your vegetable garden this summer! When you grow your own, you know it’s fresh from the garden—right to your table. You can grow vegetables in pots, in small spaces, in raised beds, or in traditional garden plots. It’s rewarding to grow your own fresh vegetables, it saves money and it is better for the environment.

The ‘VEGETABLE and HERB Seed Starter Kits’ will be on sale beginning Tuesday, February 16, 2010.

The seed kits are available at the Cornell Cooperative Extension office in Warrensburg, at 377 Schroon River Road, Warrensburg, NY 12885. The office is open Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Telephone: 518-623-3291.
